The Washington State PTA is awarding scholarships to graduates of Washington State public high schools beginning their freshman year of post-secondary education in the United Sates. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of:
- financial need
- academic performance
- leadership/community service
Please make this information available to interested students.
The application form is available on the Washington State PTA website. This application form is the only form that will be accepted.
Applications must be postmarked by March 1, 2012. Recipients will be notified by May 1, 2012.
SCHOLARSHIP AMOUNTS
- $2,000 Grants will be awarded to recipients entering four-year post-secondary institutions.
- $1,000 grants will be awarded to recipients entering community college, vocational-technical schools or other accredited institutions.
Please notify all segments of your school community regarding availability of these scholarships; where to obtain an application; and, most importantly, the March 1, 2012 deadline for submission.
WE NEED YOUR HELP
Out of the more than four hundred applications received, 30 were disqualified because they were post-marked after the due date, and many more because they either failed to provide full copy of applicant’s completed FAFSA form or did not meet the minimum GPA requirement. Your assistance in helping students avoid these kinds of errors would be most appreciated.
Suggestions for publicity and distribution:
- Announce in PTA local unit and council newsletters, school newsletters, and websites.
- Post in local business, public libraries, and at school functions.
- Notify local media.
- Make sure school career counselors are aware of the program and the application’s web address.
- Notify local colleges, technical/vocational schools, and other accredited institutions that scholarships are available for entering freshmen.
Please contact the State PTA office if you have any questions.
